Online ROM Patcher Tools
Select the ROM patch format you want to apply. All patching runs directly inside Mobile Safari or your browser. No files are uploaded to our servers, keeping your rom hacks entirely private.
IPS Patcher
.ipsThe original ROM patch format used for SNES, GBA, and NES hacks. Stores byte-offset records with no checksum — always use the exact ROM version the patch author specifies.
BPS Patcher
.bpsModern standard for GBA and SNES hacks. CRC32 checksum verification of both source and output prevents silent corruption. Created by byuu, used on ROMHacking.net.
UPS Patcher
.upsXOR-based patch format with CRC32 verification. Widely used for GBA fan translations and minor bug-fix patches. Gives a checksum error if you use the wrong base ROM.
xDelta Patcher
.xdeltaVCDIFF delta patching ideal for large NDS and PSP games where the diff is too large for IPS or BPS. Browser-side support is planned for a future PatchVault update.
How Online Patching Works
Unlike legacy patchers, PatchVault reads your original ROM file and the patch file directly into the browser's sandbox using the HTML5 File API. It executes bitwise modifications in memory and compiles a brand-new patched ROM immediately. Your data never leaves your system.
Which patch format do I have?
The patch file format depends entirely on the ROM hack author. Look at the file extension:
- .ips: Standard for older systems (NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, GBA). No built-in verification.
- .bps: Modern standard for GBA and SNES modifications. Verifies base ROM checksums.
- .ups: XOR patch style. Safe validation limits. Common in classic fan translations.
- .xdelta: Compression-based files for NDS, 3DS, and PSP hacks. Requires desktop tools.
